Post Take a look at this pic and PLEASE tell me I'm not crazy!
My neighbor - who happens to be 85 and an avid gardener of 60 years - tells me Im nuts.

I planted watermelon seeds, and now I have 3 watermelons growing.

I planted lettuce seeds, and last week I harvested 6 huge heads.

Finally, I planted a seed that (for now) will remain anonymous. Please tell me what this is growing in my veggie bed! My neighbor says there is NO WAY this plant is what I claim it is, mainly because the plant is 5 1/2' tall!!!

Thanks! The pics are below!

Post Baffled.
I wish I had a guess for you, but I don't.

The head that is forming at the top looks interesting. Reminds me of the mint family, but there are many other types of plants that have that type of flower head.

The stalk doesn't seem square, so that also moves it out of the mint family. I don't see any obvious vegetable fruit so I wonder if it is an herb. That makes for some fairly weak detective work, but plant identificaiton isn't my strength.

Whatever it is, it REALLY likes the type of soil and conditions that you have given it.

(By replying, at least I will get notified when you devuldge what seed you put in the ground.)

This looks like amaranth. And the height of 5 feet tall is certainly in line with amaranthus plants. Some are shorter but the type grown around here make 5 feet tall look like an elf.

Apparently the original poster is now busy planting seeds, or AWOL (away, writing other lists).

I really think this is amaranth, AKA love-lives-bleeding. This image link
on google might help too.
