As far as the garden goes is there any reason to worry about ants. I just think they are a nuisance. I read somewhere a suggestion to pour boiling water on them and I've tried it and it does work.

Ants "often" aren't a problem, but they can be.
But they can help bring and cultivate aphids in your garden which is a very bad thing.

A few ants you can probably ignore, otherwise ant traps or home-made solutions that use boric acid or borax and some attractant can help keep the numbers down.

Can you explain a little more about how I should use the borax and where I can buy borax?

Borax as in 20 mules and the cleaning product.
This is NOT non-toxic and not organic.
(Strangley it is a micro nutrient for gardens but in EXTREMELY low quantities.)

Borax becomes boric acid and is toxic to ants. They don't eat it and die. They take it back to the nest and it can destroy the colony.
