OK, so this isn’t the first ever veggie garden we have had, but somehow we are much more excited about it than the ones we have done, many years ago. Perhaps it is the current economy that makes us excited about saving money on fresh veggies. Or, maybe (more likely) it is the idea that as we age it is all the more appealing to have fresh veggies that are healthy. For me I think that the whole idea of being self sufficient is a powerful motivator. I am a real fan of DIY and a woodworker so gardening is a logical extension of that mindset.
I’ve installed the border for a raised bed garden and we had a load of topsoil amended with manure, delivered today. Expect to get that moved to the garden in the next few days because there are definitely some things that we can plant this weekend here in Maryland, just five weeks to our estimated last frost, though today is a chilly 29 degrees.
Anyway, I’m thrilled to have found this website and a place to plan and share and learn about veggie gardening. I look forward to many enjoyable hours here and hope you all have bountiful harvests! BJ
