Finally I planted the rest of my garden. This year I went back to square foot gardening. I built 2 raised beds one is using landscape timbers and the other is using 2 x 6 x 8 pine boards. The pine is one of the materials listed in the Sq Ft book. Next year I’ll replace the timber box with pine as well. The timber box I’ll use for flowers. The pine raised bed is exactly as described in Mel’s book except I used string for the grid because I’m going to build a cold frame cover for it and his method with thin strips of wood leaves a gap. The soil mix is the same as in the book I was kind of curious to see how well things grow in compost, vermiculite and peat moss. The other raised bed is compost, peat moss and soil. I also have an area that is straight regular garden so I can compare the three. There are beans, peas, lettuce, radishes, beets, spinach, coriander, basil, tomatoes, jalapeno, garlic and lavender.
All in the ground…
